Rye is a grain that can be used to make a lot of things. The grain gives rolls, bread, pumpernickel and other pastries a delicate taste and a dense-pored crumb. The rye is also used to make spirits. The grain is also used as feed for livestock and can also be used to make beer.
The Estonian brewery Anderson’s has a brew in its range whose malt content consists of half kilned rye. The grain forms a particularly creamy, velvety and non-slip texture, and it also contributes robust notes and a nice roasted aroma. However, the rye is not the only special feature of this brew: after the brewing process is completed, the beer is matured in wooden barrels for months. The oak wood previously stored Wild Turkey bourbon and has a wide range of aromas that are passed on to the beer as it matures.
The creation is called Seven Seas of Rye Wild Turkey BA and, in addition to a wealth of explosive flavors, brings an impressive 13.5% alcohol content into the glass. The shimmering ruby red beer in dark mahogany smells and tastes of toasted rye bread, vanilla, spicy wood, delicately melting chocolate and a hint of licorice. A decent bourbon note expressively rounds off the beer enjoyment.
